Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office to provide professional, high quality and effective law enforcement, correctional, and court security services in partnership with the community.  We are committed to the protection of life and property; the preservation of peace, order, and safety; and the defense of the Constitution of the State of Indiana and the Constitution of the United States of America.

The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office is committed to improving and enhancing the quality of life and ensuring that Vigo County is a safe place to live, work, and visit by nurturing public trust, fostering community partnership in crime prevention, and by holding ourselves to the highest standards of performance and ethics.

Jail Information


The Vigo County Jail is operated under the leadership of Captain Charley Funk, and Lieutenant Casey Lee. Captain Funk and Lt. Lee are assisted by other administrative personnel and over 70 correctional officers.  The new Vigo County Jail was opened in 2022 with an inmate capacity of over 400 inmates. The Jail generally houses inmates that are awaiting sentencing.  While housed in the Jail, the Vigo County Sheriff's Office is responsible for inmate medical care, having trained medical personnel on site.  The Jail is also responsible for the dietary needs of the inmates, along with providing meals for Juvenile Detainees, the Community Corrections Program and 2 additional County Jail Facilities.  The Vigo County Sheriff's Office Jail Division is responsible for the safety of inmates, their transport to and from courts, other services, to and from other institutions, inmate mail and commissary services.

Body Camera Footage Access

The Sheriff’s Office began issuing body worn cameras to officers in 2022.

Body worn cameras are designed to increase transparency, ensure accountability and enhance public trust by effectively using captured video.

Members of the public that request video of an encounter shall submit a FOIA request below.

Under the Indiana Access to Public Records Act § 5-14-3-1 et seq., copies of public records may be requested. The Indiana Access to Public Records Act requires a response time within seven business days.  If access to the records will take longer than seven days, information about when you might expect copies or the ability to inspect the requested records will be provided.
